One of the blogs listed on my sidebar is called
A Holy Experience. It's written by a woman named Ann Voskamp. I happened upon her site as a result of reading
(In)Courage - a website designed for women that features daily inspirational writings by various Christian authors. Ann is one of the featured authors. Her writing is...amazing. There's really no other way to say it. Her words touch my heart and her life inspires me. As well as her daily musings, Ann's blog also features an ongoing list of gifts that God has brought into her life for which she is thankful. She initially made the goal of reaching one thousand gifts on her list. Once she got there, the experience had changed and blessed her so much that she decided to keep right on going! Her example encouraged other women to do the same, and the
Gratitude Community was born - women who have each begun the journey of making a list of one thousand (or more!) gifts that have passed from the hand of God into their lives. Blessings, whether mundane or miraculous, that speak of God's love and grace. I've decided to begin my own list of God's gifts to me. Surely, one thousand is just a drop in His divine bucket. Some of the gifts I list will seem insignificant - just small earthly things that bring me pleasure. Others will be important and obvious - gifts that are foundational to my life. Both kinds come from His hand. He is the Giver of all gifts, and they all are given to bring Him glory. It has always been my tendency to live for tomorrow. I look forward, plan forward,
live forward. It is my prayer that creating this list will help me to slow down and notice the present; to see, acknowledge, and give thanks for the blessings of grace that God continually pours into my life - both the whispers, as well as the thunder. May your heart also turn upward as you read...
